Tax Time: Accessing your W2 through Skyward

At the end of each calendar year, like all businesses and organizations in the United States that employ people, School District 21 must produce a W2 form. The W2 provides a summary of one’s financial records from the year for income tax purposes. In previous years, employees received paper copies of their W2 Form. Now, with employee access to Skyward, employees may choose to receive their W2 statement electronically through Skyward Employee Access beginning this year, instead of paper copies.
IRS rules require that you provide the District with your consent in order to receive your W2 in electronic format. An employee who consents to receiving his/her W2 form online will not receive a paper copy. If an employee does not consent, he/she will continue to receive a paper copy of the W2. Paper copies will be distributed by January 31st of each calendar year, as required by the IRS.
Identify preference for electronic or paper W2 form
Login to Skyward. (Directions for Skyward login)
Upon logging in to Skyward, a pop-up window will appear asking you to identify your preference for an electronic or paper W2. This preference will appear at the bottom of this window as pictured below. Please read the entire form carefully prior to selecting your option.
After you have selected your option, please scroll back up and click the “Save” button in the upper-right section of the dialog box.
This decision must be selected by December 31st. Anyone who has not selected the electronic option by December 31st will receive a paper W2 by January 31st in accordance with the law.
In January, when the W2 forms are available, you will simply be able to login to Skyward to view your form. At that time, under “Employee Information > Payroll”, you can click the link “W2 Information” in order to receive view and print your W2 form.
